1. Students will prove that they have a clear understanding of the lessons that have been taught through groupwork, presentations, and games.

2. Students will be able to continue their learning through listening and assessing other groups work.

3. Students will have the opportunity to have fun with the remainder of the lesson.

Procedure:

Activity #1: Review

Objective: Students will prove that they have a clear understanding of the lessons that have been taught through groupwork, presentations, and games.

Part one: groupwork

Time Frame: 30 - 45 Minutes

1. Each student must have five questions from the volcano unit to hand in (this should be completed before class).

2. Students will work in groups to discuss their questions.

ASSESSMENT: Rubric for group work.

Part two: class discussion

Time Frame: 20 Minutes

1. Students run the class by asking their prepared questions.

ASSESSMENT: 1. Attention and Participation Rubric

2. Informal Group Work Observation Rubrics

Students must fulfill the requirement for the groupwork and attention and participation rubrics.

Activity #2: Presentations

Objective: Students will be able to continue their learning through listening and assessing other groups work.

Time Frame: 60 - 80 Minutes

1. Each group will give a 10 - 12 minute presentation on their virtual tour of the volcano they observed the previous day.

2. Each individual will be assigned a group to observe and assess.

EXTENSION: An extension for this activity would be to have the students give a presentation on the comparison of two or more volcanoes. The volcanoes should be located in different parts of the world so the students would be able to make new observations on them.

ASSESSMENT: Requirements for group presentation - attached.

Students must complete every requirement on this activity in order to be successful. If the student receives anything lower, he or she may make it up by writing a one to two page summary of the presentation that includes a visual aid.

 

Activity #3: Party - Lou Ouh

Objective: Students will have the opportunity to have fun with the remainder of the lesson while still remembering its contents.

Time Frame: 2 Hours

Materials: Hawaiian Music Jell-o

Fruit punch Popcorn

Cake Leis

Masks Prizes

Fruit salad

1. Students will be able to do a number of events during this block of time.
