S.O.S. Understanding the Weather Conditions on the Seas

 

Overall Goals

  1. Predict weather conditions on the seas.
  2. Learn and demonstrate "survival techniques."
  3. Understand of why certain storms happen how they form and what they are capable of doing.
  4. Understand on how to use the Internet as a resource.

Materials
All materials required for each part of the lesson will be given in the individual lesson.

Time
Approximately twelve hours. This will be spread out over the curriculum. (See individual parts for a breakdown of hours)

Procedure
Part 1: Water Purification, a lab exercise (incorporates VoyageÝof the Frog).
Part 2: Winds
Part 3: Air Pressure and the Barometer, a lab exercise
Part 4: Winds, General Circulation and the Coriolis Effect
Part 5: Storms of the Seas
Part 6: Waves
Part 7: Currents

Assessment, Major Concepts, and Extensions
Each of these elements will be given for the individual parts of the lesson.
