CDP Lesson on the Galapagos Islands

Time: 1 Hour

Content Area: Math, Language Arts

Concepts: Graphing, Conversions of metric and standard, averaging, fractions, Compare and contrast, Venn diagrams, the ability to write a story problem, Basic Algebra

 

Objective: This lesson was created to help introduce students to basic algebra, and to recap the different types of math activities that the class has been performing for the past week.

 

Procedure: From the information that the students have gathered pertaining to their animals, have each student create a word problem using information that they have gathered. Each word problem should be in an algebraic form. After each student has made a problem (including a correct answer), each students problems will be collected and put together to form a quiz to be administered to the students. This part of the lesson will be assessed on how well each student performs on the quiz. Levels of competence can be determined by the instructor for each class due to the varying amount of difficulty of questions that the students can ask.
