Assessment on Mathematics for the CDP on the Galapagos Islands

Mathematical assessment is an ongoing task. Teachers can learn a lot about students' progress in mathematics by being observant during class activities. A sample checklist of things to be aware of, and to find evidence for includes the list of improvements below. It is the teachers responsibility to observe students to the best of his/her ability.

• Improvement in students' thinking skills

• Improvement in students' explanations and ability to justify conclusions

• Improvement in students' ability to select and use suitable technology when such use is appropriate

• Increase in students' self-confidence

• Increase in students' willingness to explore ideas, make and test conjunctures, take risks, and engage in divergent thinking

• Increase in students' repertoire of problem-solving strategies

• Increase in students' dynamic interaction with the environment

• Increased in students' awareness of real-world applications

• Increased in students' willingness to consider alternative solutions to problems

• Increased ability of students to recognize connections of other aspects of mathematics and to other disciplines
