CDP lesson on the Galapagos Islands

Starting an Ocean Journal

Age Level: Middle School

Time: 1 hour

Materials: Journals, pencil, markers and crayons, construction paper and glue

Concepts: Critical thinking

Subjects: Language Skills/literary arts, Art

Objective: The journal will allow the students to reflect on the activities that were discussed about the ocean, the Galapagos Islands, and the books that they are reading during these days. This lesson also improves on their spelling, writing, and memory. The beginning part of the journal will let the students creatively decorate their journals.

Rational: This lesson plan was created to improve the students' memory of the day's activities, get a good start to journals that they will be keeping throughout the week, and display some creativity in designing a cover for their journals.

Procedure: The journal is created in order to aid in the reflection of the day's activity on the subject of the Ocean, the Galapagos Islands, and the books that they are reading. At the end of each day, this journal will be taken out and the students will be allowed some time to write what they have learned for the day and their personal feelings about the activities for the day. This article can then be taken home for the parents to see what their children are learning about the Ocean, the Galapagos Islands, and the books that they are reading. This time, the children will also be given extra time in order to draw a picture of anything pertaining to either the Ocean, the Galapagos Islands, or the book that they are reading, or decorate their journals accordingly.

Assessment: To be successful, students must achieve at least 5 points from the Observation Rubric.
