Goals:
1. Students will learn the importance of tourism to the island of Oahu.
2. Students will learn how to condense the vast amount of information about the island into easy
-to-read material.

Assessment:
1. Travel brochures will be assessed by the Travel Brochure Evaluation Rubric. (Criteria for
Success = Students must average a 2.5 or higher on the entire assignment.)
Curricular Strands and Major Concepts:
1. Language Art - Wording, punctuation, grammar, etc.
2. Art - Cover, attractiveness, etc.
3. History - Brief history of the island.
4. Science - Island setting, ocean surroundings, water activities.
5. Math - Distances, travel time.
Possible Extensions:
1. Student could also create other media forms to promote the island, such as: commercials,
advertisements, newspaper articles, etc.
