Goals:
1. Students will realize that conserving energy and educating people about recycling is an ongoing process.
Resources:
1. Video cassette "Help Save Planet Earth."
2. Materials
a. Television
b. Video recorder
Time:
Lesson will take approximately 2 hours. Allow 1 1/2 hours to view the video and 1/2 hour to generate a discussion about the video.
Procedure:
Step 1- Show video "Help Save Planet Earth."
Step 2- Generate a discussion about the video.
Step 3- Students will write a one-page reflection paper on the video.
Assessment:
1. Students will hand in reflection paper comparing classroom activities with video. Students will be assessed in accordance with "Writing Rubric".
Curricular Strands and Major Concepts:
1. Language Arts- reflection, analytical thinking, writing skills.
2. Social Studies- people, places, and environment.
Possible Extensions:
1. Show other conservation films, Challenge of the Seas and Danger at the Beach.
2. Take a field trip to local recycling centers.
