The image at right shows the Edit News Item page for the COSEE-OS item "Software Honored by 2008 Adobe Max Awards". It was accessed by clicking on the title for this item on the List News Items page, which opens the Show News Item page, and then clicking on the orange link for Edit This News Item located at the top of that page. The fields and elements on this page are described as follows: Site. Center name, in this case Ocean Systems, which is automatically supplied by the CMS. Title. The title of the news item. Try to keep this short - full sentence descriptions are better left for the blurbs. Short Blurb. A brief description of the news item. The short blurb is only used when the news item is recent enough to be featured on the Home page (see the News box on the COSEE-OS Home page). Note that the News box is somewhat limited in size and you should check that your short blurb does not override this box. Long Blurb (META Description). A longer description of the news item (usually a paragraph) that is posted beneath the title on the News page. This field will also display in the META Description tag in the source code. Full Text. The full description of the news item that is posted when you click on the MORE link associated with the long blurb on the News page. You may include links and images in your full text description. External URL. The location of the news item, if it is to be linked to externally. If your news item is linked to an external URL, the full text will not display; instead, the MORE link associated with the long blurb will take you to the external URL web page. Thumbnail Image. A small image that will display when a news item is featured on the Home page as well as to the left of the long blurb for the top most news item on the News page. (Note that only Center news items can be featured on the Home page, which is why the more recent (top most) item about COSEE Network News - shared with COSEE-OS by COSEE.net - does not display here.) The recommended image size is 70x70 pixels. See Appendix A for help on resizing and cropping images. META Keywords. A list of comma-separated words that describe the topic of this page. Click here for more information. META Author. The name of the person who created or posted this item. Status. A drop-down list for characterizing your news item as active, pending, or deleted. You must make your news item active for it to be visible on the website. Submit/Cancel. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page to upload your changes and/or image. To cancel your changes and return to the Show News Item page, click on the Cancel button. Click here to see this news item on the COSEE-OS website. Previous | Next | Contents |
