Welcome to our Curriculum Development Project (CDP). In the following pages you will find lesson plans, activities and references on the topc of Oceanic Volcanoes. Our task was to create two weeks (approximately sixty classroom hours) worth of tehmatic integrated lesson plans. As a group, we chose the topic Volcanoes, particularly Oceanic volcanoes to support "The Year of the Ocean" and our certification areas.
Although this is a complete unit, portions of it can be extracted and taught alone. Other related topics and lessons could also be added to mee your class' needs. For example, we have created lessons to involved the novel Blue Skin of the Sea. This provides an additional opportunity to incorporate young adult literature into a volcanic curriculum. However, they are not necessary to complete the CDP as literature is woven throughout the project.
The activities we have documented here are user-friendly. They include separate headings for extension activities and assessment methods. After each assessment, we have given our standards for success. We understand that these levels vary in teacher opinion and we encourage you to adjust them to fit your students' abilities.
