Writing Rubric

5 - The writing will be directed to achieve the established objectives. That is they will not be written in a
way that strays from the initial purpose of the assignment. The students will be given the intention of the
assignment when it is first assigned. Also, the number of grammatical errors, including misspellings, will
be no more than few. The writing will be well organized into a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.

4 - The writing will be directed to achieve the established objectives. Grammatical errors will be present in
several areas. The writing conveys a general message/ theme, although it does it in a somewhat
disorganized manner. An introduction, body, and conclusion are present.

3 - The writing strays a bit from the intended objective. Grammatical errors are fairly numerous. The writing
is haphazard and has no real sense of organization. A general message/ theme to be writing exists, but is
vague and somewhat unclear.

2 - An assignment is completed. The purpose is off of the intended objective. Any message/ theme is either
unclear or nonexistent. The writing lacks any real sense of organization.

1 - No assignment is completed, or it lacks any real thought and effort.
