I. Approaches and Strategies
4 - The students have a clear understanding of the task at hand by showing their competency through the use of many strategies (resources, models, technologies, etc.) 3 - The students have an understanding of the approach toward the problem, but they only use a few strategies to help with the final outcome.
2 - The students show very little understanding of the approach toward the problem and only use one strategy to help with this approach.
1 - The students have no understanding of the approach toward the problem, therefore, they do not employ any strategies to help in the development of the approach.

II. Relationships
4 - The students are able to construct scientific ideas (inventing, discovering, extending, processing, etc.) in order to build relationships between the experiment and the classroom discussion. 3 - The students show some capability to construct scientific ideas to help in the reflections toward forming relationships between the experiment and the classroom discussion.
2 - The students show very little capability to construct scientific ideas to help in the reflections toward forming relationships between the experiment and the classroom discussion.
1 - The students see no relationship between the experiment and the classroom discussion shown by their performance and the answers to the lab questions.

III. Communication
4 - The students are able to communicate clearly strategies to each other by rewording the problem and interpreting the results by verifying, summarizing, and applying to other cases. 3 - The students can communicate strategies used to each other, but the summaries are not thorough nor do they relate the previous knowledge of applications.
2 - The students have a difficult time describing the strategies to each other, but they do show some understanding of the processes involved.
1 - The students cannot describe the strategies used nor explain any of the results as they relate to the information presented.

IV. Understanding of Scientific Concepts
4 - The students always have an understanding of the scientific concepts involved in the experiment. 3 - The students sometimes have an understanding of the scientific concepts involved in the experiment.
2 - The students rarely have an understanding of the scientific concepts involved in the experiment.
1 - The students never have an understanding of the scientific concepts involved in the experiment.
