Goals

1. Provide students with an opportunity to give feedback to the instructor.

2. Get the students to reflect on what they've learned in the form of a personal journal.

3. Assessment of student progress and comprehension.

Time

Initial introduction time of project approximately 10 minutes, journal is take-home work so little or no class-time is occupied.

Procedure

1. Assign project:

• entries twice a week
• to be done Tuesday and Thursday nights
• will be checked for credit
• turned in to instructor on Friday and returned Monday
• must at least answer the assessment project
• What have you learned in the past two days?
• What did you like about what we did in class?
• What didn't you like about what we did in class?
• What would you like to learn about that we didn't cover?
• make it clear that they will not be marked down for any comments they make

3. Collect journals on Friday, return on Monday after reviewing and writing comments.

Assessment

Since this assignment is a personal journal the students will not be graded and will be marked "complete" or "incomplete" instead and given appropriate credit.

Curricular Standards and Major Concepts

1. Language Arts - students will practice critical thinking in the form of journal writing.

2. Interpersonal Communication - will help students get comfortable with providing their instructor with personal input and feedback.
