Games for Culminating Activity
To work effectively in groups to develop a culminating activity and to play other groups' respective activities.
Content Areas:
Literature - references to literature previously read
(Depending on the activity, as described below: Math, Social Studies, Science)
Materials:
Markers
Glue and/or tape
Scissors
Pens and/or pencils
Game boards
Blackboard
Colored chalk
Procedure: (2-3 hours)
Taboo - Example: Focus word is Christopher Columbus.
Jeopardy - Answer: Spreading of Catholicism, Colonization, Wealth , and Power. What are reasons for Spanish and Portuguese Exploration?
Wheel of Fortune - Names of the planets, vocabulary words.
Charades - Act out various roles of careers on a ship.
Life - Events in a pirate's or an explorer's life.
Battleship - Design a mapping game.
2) After the games have been designed, each group will explain their game
to the class.
3) Each group will spend 10-15 minutes at the other groups' stations completing the activity.
Assessment:
3 Activity demonstrates understanding of subject matter but lacks creativity.
2 Activity demonstrates some understanding of the subject matter involved.
1 Activity does not show understanding of subject matter.
