Jackdaw/Book Talk Presentation

Day 4

Goals:

1. Students will represent the adolescent literature book they read in a creative manner through a jackdaw or book talk.

Time:

five minutes per student (about two hours total)

Resources/Materials:

adolescent literature book students previously read - please see list on day two of this week - literature lesson plan chalk, chalkboard, other materials will depend upon what the students need for their presentation

Note: Please see literature - Jackdaw/Book Talk activity from day two of this week for the preparation of the presentation.

Procedure:

1. Students will individually take about five minutes to get the class interested in the book that they read about the Caribbean through their jackdaw or book talk.

2. Teacher and students will ask questions they have about the book. Assessment: Students will be assessed on the following rubric:
 

4 Student clearly, effectively, and creatively communicates the main idea or theme of the book and supports that with rich, vivid, and powerful details.

3 Student clearly and creatively communicates the main idea or theme of the book and provides sufficient support and detail.

2 Student communicates the main idea or theme of the book and provides sufficient support and detail.

1 Student communicates information in a noncreative manner and as isolated pieces in a random fashion.

Curricular Strands:

English - reading, writing, creating, presenting

Social Studies - facts learned about Caribbean through literature

Art - self expression, design of jackdaw or book talk

Possible Extensions:

Students could work in small groups to recreate a scene from a book. Students could cook food that people in their book may have eaten.
