Day 3

Goals:

1. Together the students will make final arrangements for the class trip to the Caribbean.

Time:

two hours

Resources/Materials:

chalk, chalkboard, pens, paper, telephone, computers, materials received from letters dealing with travel

Note: Please see travel plans and responsibilities already made day five of week three on the Trip Planning lesson

Procedure:

1. The students will continue with the travel plans that they have previously engaged in the previous weeks.

2. Today students will make final plans on modes of transportation, amount of money needed for trip, what entertainment they will be engaging in, make sure everyone has their passports, and food and packing arrangements.

3. By telephone or computer, the students will make hotel accommodations and buy airline tickets. (Parents will have been informed about this previously and student will have money needed at this time. The teacher as well as parent helpers will be assisting the students through these final steps of the planning of the trip.)

4. Trip plans are finalized at the end of this period.

Assessment:

The students will be assessed on how productive they are within their designated responsibilities. If each group does its responsibilities, then they will have a successful trip. The students will also be assessed on their cooperation within the groups. Their will be self as well as peer evaluations given to all dealing with their performance in the groups. All arrangements must be finalized today.

Social Studies - travel/resources

Math - money, fund-raising, hotels

English - communication, reading, writing

Self Discovery - outside resources, computers

Possible Extensions:

The student could work in pairs instead of in small groups on each part of the planning of the trip and then compare information and use the best information found for everyone in the class. The students could use this information to assist their parents or for other people in planning of family vacations.
