Snorkeling/Scuba
Speaker
Day 1
Goals:
1. The students will learn new information, or reinforce what
their previous knowledge is, about snorkeling and scuba diving
through a speaker.
2. The students will be able to ask questions and get immediate
responses and see the equipment people use to snorkel and scuba
dive.
Time:
Resources/Materials:
chalk, chalkboard, paper, pens, speaker, scuba diving and
snorkeling equipment, other resources will vary as to what the
speaker will bring
Procedure:
1. Teacher will inform students they will be having a guest
speaker today and encourage them to write down two questions they
might want to ask the speaker. (Students may want to keep paper
and a pen handy to write down any questions they have during the
presentation.)
2. The speaker will explain the various techniques for
snorkeling and scuba diving, show the various pieces of equipment
needed to participate in these activities, and explain how to use
them.
3. Students will listen to the speaker and then ask any
questions that they might have.
4. The speaker will respond to any and all questions.
Assessment:
Students will provide a written response about three new things
they learned from this speaker. The students will also be assessed
from the participation rubric located at the end of the week's
lessons.
