Ocean Currents

Surface and deep-water currents are flowing streams of water that run through the oceans, moving masses of warm and cold water to different regions.

Surface currents are caused by winds blowing across the water's surface. Deep-water currents are caused by the movement of dense, icy polar water toward the tropics and along the ocean bottom.
