Mathematical
Ocean
Introduction
Throughout the math parts of this CDP, several aspects and problem types of mathematics are going to be used.
A
Venn Diagram
|
A Standard Bar
Graph
|
|
|
These are just variations of a Venn diagram and a Bar graph. There are many alternatives that one could have their students create.
A sample for a common word problem for the Venn diagrams could appear as:
All of the 90 students in Ferry Hall speak at least one of French, English, or German. If 38 speak English, 24 speak French and English, 27 speak German and English, and 17 speak German, French, and English, how many speak German or French?
A sample for a common Algebraic word problem could appear as:
Old MacDonald had a total of 37 chickens and pigs on his farm. All together they had 98 feet. How many chickens were there and how many pigs? 4(p) + 2(c) = 98
p + c = 37
*It is likely that most, if not all students have seen a word problem by the middle school level.
